What is happening?! Did I just get kidnapped by the most gorgeous man I’ve ever seen in my life? Am I standing here considering following him to his suite? I guess I am!

“We’re just talking.” I state vehemently, in a miserable attempt to salvage my dignity.

Liam takes a pacifying step back and nods. “Thank you.”

As we exit the elevator, he’s smart enough to keep his hands to himself and give me a wide berth . When the heavy metal doors open directly on the penthouse foyer, I turn a curious gaze to him. It’s starting to sink in that everything he told me is most likely the truth. Shit, Ben recognized him! That fool has been a huge rugby fan for as long as I’ve known him, and he definitely wouldn’t praise my date unless it was his passion for the sport speaking.

The suite is luxurious. Vast and decorated in heavy dark woods and plush furniture. Floor to ceiling windows. Beautiful.

Liam gives me a small smile. So unlike my cocky giant, it almost breaks my resolve. But only almost. Because whatever is happening here, it can not take root in deception.

“I’m listening,” I state. Hand on my hip, eyebrows raised in defiance.

“I…”

He’s interrupted by the ding of the lift, followed by a sharp knock.

“For fuck’s sake!” Liam snarls, stomping towards the door and opening it wide to come face to face with another titan… This one, dressed in a security uniform.

As tall and broad as my Aussie, wearing a stern expression, he gives Liam a brief chin lift before turning his full attention to me.

“Evening ma’am. We were informed you might need to be safely escorted outside of Mr. Carr’s suite?” He inquires, his inquisitive gaze roaming over my body and features.

I let out a sigh, before answering: “I’m fine. We’re fine. We had a disagreement, and as you can see Mr. Carr is a bit rough around the edges.”

I gesture toward Liam’s hulking frame. Demonstrating to the hotel security agent I’m completely comfortable with the big man.

“Are you sure, miss?” He insists.

I give him a kind, grateful smile.

“Yes, I’m perfectly safe.” I add, coming to stand next to Liam and placing my hand on his back.

The man watches us closely for another beat, before asking: “would you mind coming to talk to me in the hallway, please?”

I sense Liam barely hanging on to whatever modicum of calm he has left. But the security agent is only doing his job.

“Of course. Be right back, honey.” I try appeasing the fuming bull at my side.
